Preserving Veteran Stories
Stories Beyond Service is a Minnesota nonprofit historical preservation organization dedicated to documenting and preserving the lived experiences of military Veterans.
We believe that every Veteran's story is a valuable part of our nation's history. While official military records preserve dates, assignments, and awards, they rarely capture the personal experiences, sacrifices, and lessons that shape a Veteran's life.
Through professionally produced oral history documentaries, we create a lasting historical archive that honors each Veteran's legacy and preserves these voices for future generations.
Mission
Stories Beyond Service preserves the lived experiences of military Veterans through professionally produced oral history interviews and documentary storytelling, ensuring their voices become part of our shared historical record.
Why we do it
Every day, Veterans pass away with experiences that only they can tell. When those memories are never documented, families lose part of their history and communities lose a piece of ours.
Every Veteran's story is a valuable piece of our nation's history. When those stories are never recorded, they are lost forever. Stories Beyond Service exists to preserve those voices before they are lost.
Founder
Matthew Skipper is a U.S. Army Veteran, filmmaker, and the Founder and President of Stories Beyond Service. His experiences in the military and passion for visual storytelling led him to create an organization focused on preserving the individual stories of Veterans.
Through documentary filmmaking, Matt works to give Veterans a space to share their experiences in their own words and ensure their stories are preserved for future generations.
Matt believes preserving the lived experiences of Veterans is one of the most meaningful ways to honor their service and ensure future generations understand the human side of military history.
